Inspired by the works of Juliellen Bryne, I wanted to explore an issue that was important to me: Child Labor. Using muppet-like faces and a hand-crafted style, I wanted to express this issue through the metaphoric use of the sewing machine controlling the child, silencing them. Using the metallic background and the raw color of the red clay, I wanted to build the environment of a labor-heavy factory with steel and bricks. This piece challenged me technically in how I would lift the pieces of clay above the surface and present it.
