Escape
Everyone has their own method of dealing with stress and negative emotions. For me, I like to calm my mind and meditate to the sound of music. A lot of times, closing our eyes and distancing ourselves from reality can help with finding clarity and serenity. The ethereal mood of “Escape” embodies the feeling of the overwhelming waves of stress and anxiety but also the dream-like escape of our meditation that helps us face the world again. In the song, I paint the image of the heat of summer and chills as shadows pass to illustrate the feeling of anxiety as one that can overwhelm someone but also send chills of fear. The chorus constructs what I think meditation is — getting lost in the things that make us happy whether it is singing, feeling like we’re on top of the world, or painting. In doing so, I wanted this song to highlight the importance of self-care and mental health for everyone and especially those who are wrestling with everyday life.
Verse 1:
In the heat of July
Drowning in these voices of mine
I wanna close my eyes
And dream about a clearer sky
Shadows pass in my head
Leaving chills dancing instead
Waiting for the drums to fade
I just want the warmth to come and stay
Chorus:
Escape into songs we sing
Where we can fly and spread our wings
Escape into the sounds we make
Gettin Lost in the colors we paint, we paint
Verse 2:
Ringing bells in the mist
Tiny fireflies up in this drift
Chasin after the dawn
Blinded by the light of this facade
Rushing sparks as I rise
Floating echoes in my mind
Ready to face the day
Sailing through these currents in my way
Chorus:
Escape into songs we sing
Where we can fly and spread our wings
Escape into the sounds we make
Gettin Lost in the colors we paint, we paint
