Over You
I wrote this song in response to the competitive environment I grew up in that made me become frightened of failure. However, over the years, I have learned that the more I become scared of failure, the more I am likely to fail. I have learned to welcome failure just like I have with success because by understanding that failure is only a step to success, I am more mentally healthy and ready to face any challenges placed before me. The “you” that I refer to in this song is failure. By personifying failure, I become face to face with what I once feared and express my emotions to overcome this fear. Just like meeting someone for the first time, personifying failure allowed me to explore its true intentions so that I am changing my view of it from something that is daunting into a worthwhile lesson.
Verse:
Enchanted by the image of perfection
Obsessed with winning all its affection
These people they walk by
Shining head tall with red eyes
And i end up lost in this whole crowd
Covered by all of your deafening sound
But in the end i’ll always rise
And get you out of my sight
Pre:
Im tired of fightin
All my life
I want to like you
At least that’s what they say it should be like
Verse:
Nobody dares to come and knock on your door
I shudder, i break at the thought of you more
Failure, say goodbye
You chain me down from the sky
It’s funny how you do the opposite
Of what i want from you this moment
How the more i defy,
It’s me that you define
Hook:
But I’m over you (you)
Yea I’m so over youqI don’t care about you
I’m so done with you (you)
You’ve broken me down just enough to get by
The blackest of clouds hangin up in my sky
Thank you for all the lies you made me believe
Guess you only dressed me up to achieve
