A recent project in game design and creation…
GEOTAP
A horizontal, obstacle based game where the player controls a moving block that slides on a horizontal platform at a constant speed. In its path lie obstacles (platforms and spikes) with which the player should avoid by pressing up to jump over it. The game also includes another parallel, horizontal path with an opposite gravitational pull that is switched when the player presses the space button. There will also be power-ups (bomb, booster, immunity, heart). If the player loses all their lives, another terrain will appear, generating buttons with which the player should jump through. The player will get all their lives back if they pass the terrain without dying. There will be three available hints for every game that the player can use which pauses the game and indicates where the player should press which button to pass the visible terrain without losing a life. The player also collects coins along the way in order to buy more booster packs each game to increase the probability of boosters showing up in their path.
A recent experimentation…
Atemporal, 2021
Wood, fabric, string sculpture (38x38x18 inches)
Atemporal plays with the allowances of fabric in their translucency and flexibility. The base of the sculpture features two wooden frames, one within another perpendicularly. I wanted to portray a sense of lightness in such sharp, solid materials. I then layered light blue silk, vibrant tulles, and pearl coloured fabric to explore the raw beauty of these different textures and colours. The translucency of the fabrics I chose emphasise the lightness of the piece and its delicacy where I experimented with creating a piece that is whimsical and fluid. In adding a pattern using strings that join the two frames, I wanted to both convey the delicacy of the structure and render the piece ship-like. The result is a sculpture that hangs before audiences, inviting them to look around and below it, to see the sculpture through the different colours of the fabric, and to notice the delicacy of the strings. The abstracted ship is instilled in the space, unmoving, yet light and audiences’ perception of it changes with light and shadow. Hence, atemporal, the word meaning existing without relation to time, embodies the meaning of the sculpture I want to convey—a symbol of dreams and growth.
